Lamb in Lion's Clothing or Lion in Sheep's Clothing?
Advent is an ancient Christian tradition in which the four weeks leading up to Christmas are set aside as a season of preparation and reflection. We meditate on the prophecies of the Old Testament, the proclamation of John the Baptist, scriptures that counsel patience, offer hope, and reveal God's promise of peace. We also begin to consider the Christmas story itself--the mighty and mysterious coming of God in human form, born a baby and wrapped in swaddling cloths. This morning Pastor Burchill ponders why the lion and the lamb aren't actually where we think they should be in Isaiah's famous vision of God's future shalom or peace. Sometimes what we think is in the scripture tells us just as much as what is actually in there. (Permalink)
