War and Pestilence

It's always a struggle to think about what God wants ahead of what we want. But it's probably the chief thing that separates us from the culture around us. The consumer-oriented, celebrityworshipping, get-ahead-or-get-left-behind society around us is not interested in what God wants or needs. It's every woman and man for themselves. But we intend to be different. We claim to have traded in our self-centeredness for godly, other-directed living. And nowhere should that be more evident than in the church of Jesus. If we don't display to the world our willingness as a called and chosen people to surrender our preference to God's purpose and plan than we've got almost nothing of lasting value to offer that world. This morning we look at a snapshot of the earliest church to gain some new insights and affirm a new action plan to help us align ourselves and our St. Andrew congregation with God's mission and purpose.
