The Hidden Curriculum

This series is a discussion about being real--not just with God, but with ourselves and others. Are we the same people 'in the world' as we are in church on Sunday morning? If we're not, is that because God is present in the sanctuary, but not our classroom or office? If not, where does He go? Or, have you ever been at a restaurant with a group of people when the conversation is questionable at best, and then the food arrives and everyone assumes an awkwardly reverent posture while someone says a dutiful prayer--and then continues the gossip or off-color conversation right where you left off? How does that work? Which was the real you? The person gossiping about your neighbor or the one who is humble before your God? And, how do you think the people at the next table would answer those questions? Just how 'real' are we? (Permalink)
