Giving Thanks in all Circumstances

Ask an adult about their Thanksgiving traditions and youll receive a cookbook full of recipes, a list of family traditions ranging from pre-meal snack favorites to seasonal decorations to preferred locations for the feast, all the way to the post-meal nap (football games). Ask a child about Thanksgiving and you might well get a history lesson full of native Americans and starving pilgrims, complete with crayon-traced, handprint turkeys! Thanksgiving is, indeed, a special time of family, food, and relaxation, but is that all it is? Is Thanksgiving a Hallmark holiday in your family? Or, is it an opportunity to remember one of the most important lessons our parents taught us: to make sure we say Thank you for our gifts. Wed never forget to say thank you to grandma for our Christmas gifts, but sometimes we forget to say thank you to God for all the grace He gives us. Lets face it; Americans have it so good and enjoy it (our blessings) so much, but express it so little. As people of faith, we know that Thanksgiving is more than a day off and a huge meal, its an attitude. One I hope we all have. (Permalink)
