Withness and With-in-ness

The time before Christmas is Advent, a season to help prepare us to welcome our Savior into our world . Christians prepare for celebrating the birth of Jesus by remembering the longing of the Jews for a Messiah. In Advent, were reminded of how much we ourselves also need a Savior, and we look forward to our Saviors second coming even as we prepare to celebrate his first coming at Christmas. The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, which means coming or visit. In the season with this name, we keep in mind both advents of Christ, the first in Bethlehem and the second yet to come. Christian blogger, Mark Roberts, put it this way: I found that observing Advent enriched my celebration of Christmas. Taking four weeks to focus on the hope of Christs coming made me much more joyful when I finally got to celebrate it. The more I got in touch with my need for a Savior, the more I rejoiced at the Saviors birth. Our Advent theme this year comes from the prophecy of the great Hebrew prophet Isaiah and is best expressed through the words of a favorite Carol, Let Heaven & Nature Sing! Join us as we at St. Andrew cut through the commercialization and craziness of the season to prepare our hearts and homes for the Prince of Peace. (Permalink)
