Putting in Your Contact Lenses While Standing on a Water Bed

The Last Road Trip Pastors Pat and Tim will begin a new sermon series based on Jesus last journey on the road to Jerusalem. The gospel of Luke takes a decided shift in chapter 9, verse 51 in which it says, When the days drew near for him to be taken up, Jesus set his face to go to Jerusalem. And really from that point on Jesus begins his final journey not just to the great city of Jerusalem, but also to the cross, the grave, and from the empty tomb to the road to Emmaus. Join us as our pastors help us find insight and inspiration in the final journey of Jesus, which nicely parallels our journey through the holy season of Lent. (Permalink)

Other People's Prayers

Beginning the new year with a variety of resolutions can often be a productive opportunity to change the direction of our lives. Yet just as frequently, they are forgotten or left unkept more quickly than we care to recognize. There is a huge difference between making a resolution and living resolutely. During the next few weeks we are going to identify a handful of habits, attitudes, and faith resources that can help us move a long way toward resolute living after the example of Christ. If we want to be women and men after Gods own heart, then we need to begin here and now. This morning and in the weeks to come, Pastors Pat and Tim hope to share a few keys to help that happen. Welcome to a New Year!

As we set about breaking in 2013, some of us have already decided that we need to make some changes in our lives. The typical changes we think about are losing weight, getting in better shape, picking up a new hobby and putting more money in the bank for a rainy day " those kinds of things. And, all these things would probably be good for us " if we actually do them! But New Years Resolutions are rarely kept, because, behind that resolution is the understanding that, to really be perfect, we need to be something were not currently. But if none of us can be perfect, whats the point in all that work? Well, our text for this morning offers us a glimpse into an amazing gift from God to each of us: we dont need to be perfect. Our text says, To all who believe in Christ, He gives us the right to become Children of God. See, its not our weight or how much that is in our bank account that is important to God; its what we are becoming! Is that who and what we are? Flawed people who have been claimed by Christ who are on a journey to BECOME Children of God? If so, I think just maybe thats perfect enough! Happy, NOT perfect, 2013! (Permalink)

Happy, Merry Sunday After Christmas!

So, are you exhausted and suffering from Christmas Hangover? Does your house look like an explosion at the North Pole? Or, are your decorations down and put back away for another year? Have the gifts been appropriately Oohd and ahhd over and thank you cards sent out? Is your house already put back together in some reasonable semblance of order? Our response to the aftermath of Christmas is as varied as our response to Christmas itself. Some of us hang onto Christmas as long as we can and linger before taking down the decorations and putting our house back in order. Others of us celebrate Christmas but by a couple of days after everything is back in its normal place and we have moved onto the next thing in our lives and on our calendars. Most of us have pretty firm traditions about what we do during the Christmas and holiday seasons"but what do we do with Christmas on the Sunday after and for the rest of the year? Does Christmas last a single day or week or so or is it something that lives in us throughout our year? What are we left with AFTER Christmas day is past? (Permalink)
